In the early 2000s, a group of dedicated community members brought the Toowoon Bay Ocean Swim to life.
The group included John McNamara, Wendy McNamara, Irene Freeman, Jenny Scott, Brian Bowe, Gary Baker, Lisa Gough, Peter Cox, Jean Cox, the Entrance Amateur Swimming Club, and the Tuggerah Tuffs.
The Entrance Surf Life Saving Club assisted with water safety, while family and friends of the organisers volunteered their time, reflecting the strong community spirit behind the event.
Over the years, the ocean swim has received additional support from the Toowoon Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. The Ocean Swim provides financial support for various member initiatives within Toowoon Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
Each year, a donation is made to the Disabled Surfers Association Central Coast.
The ocean swim continues to grow in popularity and support, and the organising team is proud to have two of the original co-founders still actively involved.
